A girl cannot purposefully delay her period, but certainly if she is stressed enough to cause physical symptoms her period could be delayed. If you're stressed your body delays or prevents ovulation in order to avoid you getting pregnant at a time when it can't cope, late ovulation thus means late menstruation. If you're in your teens then irregular cycles are normal which may be a factor here too, it's not necessarily stress that is causing your period to be late.

By worrying about it (and I assume you mean you are worried about it because it has not arrived this month) you are inducing stress, and stress can do a lot of funny things to a body. Plus, I have noticed that while some women are more regulated than a Cesium clock, most normal women have a period that wobbles around from 26 to 30 days, and it is not unusual for women to miss a period altogether for no apparent reason.

Which all means, if you are worried about your period, don't. If you are worried you might be pregnant, take a pregnancy test.

YES. I know because it is very, very common for women in the military to miss their periods during basic training, field training and when deployed to war -- all high stress times. I didn't have my period for months at a time during several of these experiences and neither did many of the women around me and the doctors always said it was normal.

There are other reasons that can cause missed periods as well, but stress definitely can.
