The paternity test is done on both the father AND the child. Most, if not all, jurisdictions require a paternity test before awarding monthly child support payments. If that is the case where you live then you won't have a choice as it is usually done under court order. Your only option would be to never file for child support.

What does 99.24 mean in a paternity test?

Congratulations, It means that you are the father of the child. DNA is never 100% the most that you will ever see is 99.99999999. I have seen the Court accept 95% as paternity. In my sons case it was 97.9999 with the child and Father only the Mother was not present.

If a man died and you wanted to prove that your son was his could you test his sons DNA with your sons DNA?

Sons usually do carry their father's DNA. DNA is used to prove evidence in paternity as well as crimes. The test may not be as accurate as a test of the man's own DNA would have been but will be an indication. If you know the deceased's blood group and this is the same that could be a reason to do a test of DNA but it is quite expensive.
