you can use a flat paint in a bathroom if there is no moisture problem. the biggest problem in bathrooms is moisture from showers causing mildew on ceilings and walls that leads to paint falling off then the drywall or plaster walls themselves failing. adequate ventilation is necessary for any coating to stand up. where there is adequate ventilation almost any coating will do. Zinsser Perma White self-priming bathroom paint is an awesome water based product made specifically for bathroom ceilings and walls and can be tinted. Self priming means you just paint right over the existing surface. Other major manufacturers like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams also have a great water based bathroom paint. Tell the clerk you want a specialty bathroom paint and he or she will steer you to the right product. old timers like me worried about moisture in a bath will sometimes still coat walls and ceilings with an oil enamel, with a sheen. oil paints in a bath really resist mildew and mold better than anything. modern bathrooms with great ventilating fans, high ceilings, plenty of square footage to dissipate moisture can be painted with almost anything. kane painting, semass
Base paint is also known as flat paint, or flat wall paint, or matt paint and is a latex paint. Flat paint is just that, flat or dull with no sheen at all. Semi-gloss is an enamel that dries very hard and can be found in a low sheen (satin) a medium sheen (semi-gloss) and a high sheen (high gloss) Flat paint is usually used on walls and ceilings where as semi-gloss is used in kitchens, bathrooms, doors an jambs because it helps hold back the inherent moisture in those areas.
No, because eggshell paint is intended only for indoor use, like kitchens or bathrooms. For exteriors, use paint with a satin finish.
i would
Flat black paint.
you should use bold flat colours to paint pop art
Yes, enamel paint will go over flat paint.
I LIKE FLAT PAINT. IT IS CHEAPER AND EASIER TO CLEAN. TEXTURED PAINT IS HARDER TO CLEAN BECAUSE OF THE GROOVES IT CREATES. THIS IS WHY I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FLAT PAINT.
You can, eggshell paint is a low-luster paint, meaning that the surface is less shiny, and therefore less hard than other higher gloss paints. In an en-suite bathroom, or a powder room eggshell paint can be both esthetically pleasing and wipe-able. It will not, however be scrub-able, you need a higher gloss factor to be able to repeatedly wash (and sometimes scrub) a paint. In a high traffic bathroom, one that sees multiple showers per day, or one that sees children (and their finger/hand prints) it is more advisable to use a higher gloss factor in the paint. Many paint manufacturers make paints specifically designed for use in bathrooms and kitchens. They are higher gloss (pearl, satin, semi-gloss) and have a chemical in them which is designed to reduce mold and mildew. Even in areas where humidity is not as big a factor as it is in some places, this added feature can be a good thing.
No, the particles are too large, use talc.
Can I paint semi gloss over flat paint? Thanks!Barbara Phillips
yes
If you have the satin, you can add flat paint and take some of the sheen off. This would have to be done before application. It will never be a true flat though.
