Leave the grill at home because grilling is not permitted on Coney Island Beach. No worries, though; you'll have a plethora of food options to dig into on the world-famous boardwalk, including Totonno's Pizza and Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs. Coney also offers an array of fun things to do including Roller Coasters, people watching, games, and other rides and amusements, so eats may be the last thing on your mind.

Manhattan Beach is the only Brooklyn beach that allows grilling near the beach. There are signed designated areas where barbecuing is permitted. Grilling is legal only in the section northeast of the promenade, next to the parking lot, and also adjacent to Hastings Street.

No, Coney Island Beach is not on the NYC Parks & Recreations Dept's list of designated grilling/cookout areas.

See the first Related Link below for the list of designated grilling/cookout areas. A few of these parks require you to get a $25 permit to have a cookout. For most of them, though, you only need a permit if your party will consist of more than 20 people (source: see the second Related Link). You must apply for the permit at least 21 days in advance.

Yes: the Coney Island Beach. And Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach to the east. And the Sea Gate beaches to the west, but those are private beaches belonging to the Sea Gate gated community. The whole area is a peninsula, so it is surrounded by beaches.

Why is Coney Island called an island?

Because it once was. Now it is a peninsula. It was separated from the rest of Long Island by a narrow creek, called Coney Island Creek. The center of the creek (the part that separated Coney Island from mainland Long Island) was filled in sometime in the early 20th century, turning Coney Island into a peninsula.
