It's going to be your radiator fan clutch. Mine was squealing for a while until finally it turned into clanging. It was pretty bad. I'm in the process now of replacing mine. That should be your next step.
Usually belts shred due to 1) bad or seized power steering pump or belt tensioner 2) Mis-Aligned pulleys or belt tensioner. 3) gremlins (or maybe nicked the belt during other repairs and it wore badly) just happened to me and I replaced tensioner as mine had seized. it started making horrible squealing sounds after the repair. I replaced the pump and all was well after that.
Replace the tensioner. Stop it from getting wet by making some sort of shield to prevent water from getting to the belt.
No! Something is wrong.
Check your belt tensioner idler pulley, I replaced mine for about $120.00 from a Mitsubishi dealer compared to $170.00 from a Dodge dealer. 1995-2000 Dodge Avengers were made by Mistubishi for Dodge.
That is the correct spelling of "squealed" (made squealing sound, or slang for betrayed).
I would suspect one of two things. Either the replacement belt is not the correct size or the belt tensioner is bad. The squealing sounds like a loose belt which would also account for the battery light. possible bad battery causing the alternator to work too hard
They might be making squealing or scratchy noises when you brake
It depends on the noise. If it is a squealing noise it is probably a loose belt and needs to be replaced. Check the back of the belt if it is "glazed" meaning slippery and shiny then replace the belt.
You can't, the serpentine belt (or fan belt) on a grand marquis is equiped with a self tensioner, if your belt is making noise it either needs to be replaced or one of the pulleys on the cars may be loose and would need to be replaced.
id say check the belts. not a car expert though
The belt is adjusted by the tensioner, which generally isn't adjustable unless the spring has started to fail or break. If the belt is slipping or making noise check it for cracks on the ribbed side. If you see any cracks, replace the belt. If the tensioner seems soft, it too can be replaced.
