Platyhelminthes, or flatworms, demonstrate various adaptations. Their flat shape makes it easier for oxygen to reach cells and for waste to be removed without a complex circulatory system. Perhaps their most interesting adaptation is the ability to regenerate, which aids the survival of the individual and can also be used for asexual reproduction. Some flatworms have adapted to a parasitic lifestyle, such as evolving hooks on their mouths that let them attach to a host's body.

Flatworms have many adaptations as an internal parasite. Their body is covered by a protective tegument which makes it resistant to digestive acids. They release a large number of eggs, which ensures that some survive to reinfect or pass on the infection, and they have attachment features on their anteriors to remain attached to their host.
