Actually he did speak a little English. There is a newreel scene somewhere of Hitler speaking to British WWI veterans in the mid-1930s. It was a group of WWI veterans that travelled to Germany at that time and had an audience with Hitler. The clip is in the World At War. I will provide the segment name and time later. There probably is a longer clip of this somewhere also as that visit by the veterans was a reasonably well-known event at that time.
