Yes. In general, the bigger the page, the longer it can take for a browser to display the page, as it has to lay the page out internally. Transmission time of the page can also be a factor, especially with dial-up or heavily loaded DSL or cable connections. Finally, if the WikiAnswers web servers and database servers are under heavy load at any time, they can be slow responding to any request, especially one that touches many pages, such as a watchlist scan. WikiAnswers will be working on solutions to help trim Watchlists. In the meantime, you might want to remove some items manually.
Depending on settings in your settings in http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Special:Preferences . If you have checked 'Add pages you edit to your Watchlist by default.' then it will be added. This change was implemented about a month ago (give or take).
