Decode engine serial number for Nissan?
The private seller of my son's NISSAN Altima 2002 2.5 recently replaced the car's engine (under three month warranty). He mentioned the engine came from a 2005 NISSAN Altima, but we have reasons to believe the information is incorrect. The engine serial number is 4319 32Z QR25. Could you help us find the vehicle model and year it came from? Thank you, Enrique

Answer . \nDepends on the manufacture. On Chevy for instance, the engine Serial# will tell you where the engine was made, month, year, and vehicle it was installed in. Use Google to search for engine codes for your vehicle.
FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE BLOCK NUMBER IS C2DE 6015 BA, THE FIRST DIGET 'C' MEANS THE YEAR, SIXTY'S. C= 60'S. D=70'S. E=80'S. SECOND DIGET IS THE YEAR, IN THIS CASE IT WOULD BE A 1962!. THE 6015 IS A NUMBER THAT FORD USES!. THE OTHER NUMBERS I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY MEAN, SO SOMEONE HELP ME OUT!!!. T…HANKS; REGGIE B.. The first digit is the decade, the second is the year, the third is the car line, the fourth tells you what system the part is for. E is an engine part, B is a body part, F is a fuel system part, etc.. with all factory replacement parts having a Z as the fourth digit. 6015 is what's called the group number. This means that it is some kind of an engine block. 9510 is a carb, 9425 is an intake manifold, etc... and the last one or two digits tell you how many times the original design of the part has been changed.. The number given as an example is not an actual casting number that Ford used, since they didn't start using double digit design level change designations until the 70s, but, if it were a real number, it would be telling you that this is the first change of the second design of an engine block that was originally designed for use in a 1962 Falcon. it is on the passenger side of the block where it meets the transmission....right down behind intake....
Answer . \nThe VIN # on your vehicle is the Vehicle Identification Number. It can be located on the title of the vehicle and can also be located under the windshield on the drivers side down by the wiper blade. 2852682 there are many different ways to decode things for example: a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, e=5, f=6, etc.' if it is more tricky, you have to find patterns, and decode it that way: 278= and so you see, some are simple, and some are much more complicated. thanks for viewing : >
1950's Ford engine plant, assembly date and inspection codes are generally stamped on a machined surface at the front end of the engine block. Example: 4-78NC from an MEL block 410cid (Edsel E475) 4= Lima engine plant 7= 1957 8= August, while O=October, A=November and B=December N= 13th …day of month (I's are skipped, 26th-31st are inverted A thru F) C= inspector i.d. Other engine plant codes: 1=Cleveland engine plant #1 2=Cleveland engine plant #2 3=Dearborn engine plant On FE blocks, look for the codes on the vertical machined block face just outboard and slightly above the right-side water pump/engine block interface. On early MEL blocks, the numbers can be found on an upward-facing machined surface just above the left water pump/engine block interface. Some later MEL blocks, including all service replacements assembled after February 7, 1958, have the code stamped on the right rear portion of the oil pan rail. On Y-block engines, look for the code in the upward-facing surface at the center of the cylinder block at the push-rod cover to cylinder block mounting surface. 223cid six cylinders have the codes stamped into the front left corner of the engine block, facing outboard, directly below the cylinder head surface. Later 1958 MEL blocks have their numbers stamped into the aft vertical machined surface of the engine block, instead of the front. 1959 and later FE block engine codes are stamped on a vertical surface just forward of the dipstick on the driver's side. Look for a jutting surface on the block just below and forward of the lower forward corner of the left exhaust manifold. Starting in 1960 the code took the following form: Example: 4-1G20J from a 6-cylinder 170cid Comet (which originally was intended to be an Edsel model) 4= Lima engine plant 1= 1961 G= July (I's are skipped) 20= 20th day of month (this could be a single digit for days 1 through 9) J= inspector i.d. Now, just *which* engine codes are we looking for? (MORE)

You can decode an identification number on a trailer by knowing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for insurance, registration, or production code purposes. The VIN can also be decoded using an authorized website by inputting the Vehicle Identification Number to identify the place, company and …year of manufacture, safety braking, body type and engine chassis. The Vehicle Identification Number was originally described in ISO Standard 3779 in February 1977 and last revised in 1983. The ISO-VIN was designed to identify motor vehicles, trailers, motorcycles and mopeds and consists of several parts described below. How to read a VIN 1st character- Identi…fies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured. For example: U.S.A.(1or 4), Canada(2), Mexico(3), Japan(J), Korea(K), England(S), Germany(W), Italy(Z) 2nd character- Identifies the manufacturer. For example; Audi(A), BMW(B), Buick(4), Cadillac(6), Chevrolet(1), Chrysler(C), Dodge(B), Ford(F), GM Canada(7), General Motors(G), Honda(H), Jaquar(A), Lincoln(L), Mercedes Benz(D), Mercury(M), Nissan(N), Oldsmobile(3), Pontiac(2or5), Plymouth(P), Saturn(8), Toyota(T), VW(V), Volvo(V). 3rd character- Identifies vehicle type or manufacturing division. 4th to 8th characters- VDS - Vehicle Descriptor Section. These 5 characters occupy positions 4 through 8 of the VIN and may be used by the manufacturer to identify attributes of the vehicle. Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc. 9th Character - The check digit "character or digit 9" in the sequence of a vehicle identification number (VIN) built beginning with model year 1981 (when the 17 character digit format was established) can best be described as identifying the VIN accuracy. A check digit shall be part of each vin (since 1981) and shall appear in position nine (9) of the VIN on the vehicle and on any transfer documents containing the vin prepared by the manufacturer to be given to the first owner for purposes other than resale. Thus, the vins of any two vehicles manufactured within a 30 year period shall not be identical. The check digit means a single number or letter "x" used to verify the accuracy of the transcription of the vehicle identification number. After all other characters in the VIN have been determined by the manufacturer the check digit is calculated by carrying out a mathematical computation specified. This is based on vin position, sample vin, assigned value code, weight factor and multiply assigned value times weight factors. The values are added and the total is divided by 11. The remainder is the check digit number. The correct numeric remainder - zero through nine (0-9) will appear. However, if the remainder is 10 the letter "X" is used to designate the check digit value/number. 10th character- Identifies the model year. For example: 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994(R), 1995(S), 1996(T), 1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3), 2004(4), 2005(5), 2006(6), 2007(7), 2008(8) 11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle. 12th to 17th characters- VIS - Vehicle Identifier Section. The last 8 characters of the VIN are used for the identification a of specific vehicle. The last four characters shall always be numeric. Identifies the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled off the manufacturers assembly line. (MORE)
Since 1980 all Nissan vehicles have a 17 digit VIN number thatcontains several pieces of information. The Nissan website has aVIN decoder in the Support section that will decode the number foryou.
Impossible to say. Some manufacturers include the size in the number, some don't. It's up to the company in question.

How do you decode a Smith and Wesson Model 36 J Frame serial number J199925 to find the year it was made?
Find a copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, sn data is in it.
It is located on the left hand side of the case just below thw cylinders on the case it's self.
i have to engine s/n one is P040701 and G92603 can you tell me what year they are.
V1 stands for 6 cylinder V4 is 8 cylinder. Your six could be one of 2 6 cylinder check the block casting number for 225 for the big 6
Find a book with sn lists for S&W. The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, by Supica and Nahas has what you are looking for.
No, the serial number on the engine is totally different from the VIN number on the frame. The only info you can get from your engine number is date and origin of manufacture. The frame VIN number and engine numbers are always different.
A VIN or Vehicle Identifiaction number is different for every single car. The first 3 letters are the manufacturers world code. For Instance, Skoda is TMB and Land Rover SAL. Also, the last 6 digits are unique to the car that it is on and no other model and variation will have that combination of th…e last 6 digits. The other digits (numbers and letters) are different from car maker to car maker. They will consist of model (Mondeo, Vectra, A6); Variation (Mondeo Ghia, Vectra SRi, A6 Quattro); engine size and fuel. (MORE)
On "Type 1" engines (Beetles and pre`72 US-market Buses) it'sstamped in the rear of the case, just below thegenerator/alternator pedestal. "Type 3"(Fastbacks/Squarebacks/Notchbacks) cases have it stamped on the topof the case, alongside the parting line in the center. "Type 4"(411/412 and `72-up Bus…es in the US) have it both on the enginecase and on the cast-aluminum fan shroud (which can be transferredfrom one engine to another and should therefore not be considereddefinitive). There are many replacement cases out there (mostly Type 1 or 3)which have no I.D. number anywhere - their vintage can bedetermined by the casting numbers on the side of the sump andphysical characteristics (things like the number of oil pressurecontrol valves and the diameter of the oil pump studs - head studdiameter is not a reliable indicator since it's not uncommon forthem to be replaced and/or steel thread inserts installed wherethey screw into the case). And "Factory Exchange" cases exist whichhave had their original serial number milled away and a new onestamped into the resultant cartouche; there were also aftemarketrebuilders who would rivet their own I.D. plate over the originalnumber. On these, the codeletter represents the configuration ofthe latest incarnation, not necessarily what the case was used fororiginally. (MORE)
Hi, they are on the rear deck behind the head, left side, on a 6V 53 right under the dipstick tube
H5 engines were VW's first attempt at meeting US-market emissionsstandards ("M157"). Because they were jetted leaner they tended torun hotter, and it was decided to use a less-dense alloy for thecase than had been used in previous engines (such as the "F" 1300and "H0" 1500) in order to improve heat …transfer out of the block.Turned out to be a horrendously bad decision - these"cottage-cheese" cases are infamous for warping, cracking, andpulling headstuds....the only thing they're good for is keeping therain off of potentially usable internal parts (any time/money spentbuilding an engine based upon an H5 is wasted, it's not a questionof whether it will fail - only when). It's located just beneath the generator/alternator stand, stamped on the case. If you look through the space between the two pulleys, the alpha-numeric number should be visible.
The 2001 Nissan Pathfinder engine number can be found on the engineidentification plate. The engine identification plate should beattached to the right side of the engine block.
I know only about the first symbol and, the most obvious, the 2 last symbols. As for the last 2 - it's the originating country. The first letter - if it's 'E', it's most likely means 'express'. If 'L' - it's a letter. Still have to get to know what 'R' means.
The number is stamped on the back of the engine behind the driver side head on a flat deck were the transmission bolts up to the engine. You can see the "casting number" with an inspection mirror. On some later model engines the last 3 numbers are stamped between the freeze plugs on the side of the …engine. (MORE)
You don't decode the serial, you decode the date code stamped on the barrel starting in 1921. If you have something before that you need a model/serial to date it. Check the manufactured date link on the Remington Society of America for details.

good morning, I have a VIN #5N1AR1AW76C673959 and i would like to get thecorresponding engine serial number. thank you
There is a metal caterpillar tag on the top of the engine. It is probably covered in grease and oil so take some cleaner with you.
Block ID number is on the very rear upper bell housing flange and the serial number is stamped into the front boss just above the water pump inlet. Or where the pump bolts to the block. It's a flat boss.
Hello, The location of the engine serial number tag on your 2011 FJ Cruiser is illustrated in the "Related sources and links" link posted below this post. Hope this helps!
In 1949 the first VW engine number was 1-000 001 (30 hp) up to Dec 1953 which ended with the engine number of 1-695 282. Counting the production of VW's each year and based on the primitive way the Germans used to keep track of their production that would put your engine year at 1951. The German…s were making approx 7,780 VW's per month back then or roughly 260 VW's a day ! You're engine was born in June 1951 approx. !! Go ahead and do the math !! *VW 1973 VW* (MORE)
they are usually stamped in the flywheel blower housing or on the ohv valve cover or on a tag near the controls. the number is 5 or 6 digits possibly containing letters. the 4 numbers following that is the type
There will be a two letter designation in front of those numbers that will pinpoint the engine.
This would be model years 1971 through 1972 1200 cc "34 horsepower" Type 1 Beetle engines.
The numbers vary from one engine to the next. Varies with model year and displacement and European or US.
This would be a late 1965 to early 1966 manufactured engine, 1966 model year 1300 cc engine.
That would be a model year 1971 through 1973 1600 cc for the Type 1 Beetle models.
Engine serial number is on the rear of the engine top left side. Illustration appears to be on the flange that bolts to the transmission.
To decode a vin number you need to know what each section means. the first three characters tell you where the car was made, characters 4 through 8 tells you about the car. It tells you a decription of it. Digit 9 is a check number to detect fake vin numbers. Position 10 tells you the year it was ma…de. The rest of the numbers are your production numbers. (MORE)
