I think because of the fact that she went and bought rat poison to kill him.... is a pretty strong motive for passion. She probabably did not love him, but was attracted to him for sure, it is relevant because it seems that he likes women, but he also likes MEN. From the point of view of the author.

∙ 13y agoIt is truly unknown and up to the reader to interrupt. In the story, it states that Homer admits to liking men. Does that mean he was gay? Possibly. In the same quote, he also says he is not the marrying man. It is also implied that Homer tried to get out of his courtship with Miss Emily since she had to kill him in order to make him stay.
It could have been multiple scenarios; he loved her but didn't want to take it to the next level, he was really gay and had no interest, or he just didn't love her and wanted out.
