India was formly a part of the subcontinent, under the British empire. when the Britisher left they divided the sub-continent into Pakistan and India according to the religious distribution. So the Hindu majority ares were given to India and the Muslim majority areas were given to Pakistan. So Pakistan became the first country in the world who gained independence on the basis of ideology. Israel is now the only second one. Pakistan became an independent country on 14th August, 1947 and India on 15th of August. In 1971 Pakistan then divided again into Bangladesh and the present Pakistan. Kashmir is a disputed territory between he two countries whose affiliation between either of the country has yet to be decided.
