Young Barack only saw his dad once after that, for one month, when he was about ten. According to President Obama's writings, he was always puzzled and confused by why his father had no interest in him and never kept in touch. Perhaps on some level he was also angry that his dad didn't seem to care about him. He has said that it made him determined that if he ever married and had kids, he would be much more involved in their lives and be a better father than his father had been.
