A Catholic Church is very decorative. It has coloured stained glass windows and statues, painted with gold leaf paint. The structure includes big arches.
A Protestant Church is very plain and simple. It has clear windows and isn't fancy.
Catholics believe that God the Son became incarnate in a human body through the Holy Spirit and the Blessed Virgin Mary to save mankind from their sins. He established His Church and appointed Apostles (Bishops) and Peter (Pope) to guide that Church on earth and He guaranteed to be with It until the end of time. Catholics believe that you only have one choice in life: to love and serve the Lord, or to reject Him and be separated from Him forever in Hell. Every other choice you have in life comes down to that, is this following Jesus or rejecting Him.
Protestants reject Christ because they reject His Body: the Church. They believe that they are their own little "Pope" and that they can decide how to follow Jesus themselves. Thus they fragment into many "denominations" as they decide how they want to follow God, ignoring what He, Himself has said, and interpreting for themselves what is right or wrong. Thus they believe that they have more choices than following God or not, they believe that they have the choice to decide HOW they are going to follow God.
The central act of worship in the Catholic churches is the Celebration of the Eucharist. In this sense the belief is that there is made present the body and blood of Christ. In protestant worship this central act of worship is the Lord's supper, which is different in that it is simply a memorial meal and nothing more. The worship of the protestant churches seems to be much more concentrated on song (praise and worship music). Catholic worship is more based on the recitation of the psalms and on hymns.
The biggest difference is the fact that church "services" are all that protestant have, and that very few Catholics actually attend "services". For a Catholic "church services" would include the Divine Offices of Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Daytime Prayer, Evening Prayer, Night Prayer, these are usually only attended by monks, nuns, and other religious. Services also might include the Rosary, Adoration, Divine Mercy, etc. but these are offered intermittently at most parishes. The only thing that Catholics attend, and some of them attend daily is the Most Holy Eucharist, which is NOT a service, but the re-presentation of the once only sacrifice of Our Blessed Savior on the cross for our salvation 2,000 years ago on Calvary. The Eucharist or Mass, as it is commonly called, is primarily the making available to us in the here and now, to be present at that once only event on Calvary and witness Our Blessed Savior sacrificing Himself and making those graces available for us now. But this is not a "service" as the protestants would have it, those are what I talked about at the beginning.
