Green belts do work and apply six sigma in amongst. A green belt is expected to be interested in making his/her role/team more efficient and better for the client/consumer. This is a DILIGENT workers position in the company be it acredited as sixsigma or not. Black belts do six sigma all the time, they are given a project or two to impliment by the master and its their job to run them/it. Blackbelts should be expected to have an understanding of business studies including kaisen, statistics, hypothesis testing, finances, change managment, waste reduction etc. This is the role of DILIGENT middle managment in the company be it acredited or not. There is much debate in academia as to the benefit of acreditation as many of the marks are very similar in philosophy. Sixsigma is distinct in that it places its emphasis on statistics, its name being taken from the normal distribution curve. Some take this as an apperance of pseudoscience, however it has had a significant uptake in the NHS and other science baised companys. Other marks bias other variables for instance IIP values staff training etc. All institutions offering marks are commercial ventures and acreditation can seem to be biased for that reason alone. Generaly a good knowledge of the business in question and the limitations of culture there in are needed for the sucessful implimentation of any mark.
