i think I think the disadvantages of watching TV that people spend a lot of time watching TV and it became part of mant people life. there are many things to do more interst than setting in front or "boring" TV screen. LOLWA M DOHA-QATAR In my opinion... Watching television causes sho…rt attention spans as well as cause reading dificulties or even incapabilities. I t does not enhance your thinking at all really. We just do it because it is so easy. I'm guilty of this myself; however I try to read more than I watch TV. Think about it. Centuries ago, books were rare and valuable. Owners of them kept them safe. Why has TV taken it's place? You can't even use your imagination when watching it. If you are blind than you can't really tell what is going on. With books. You make your own images in your mind. There is nothing to watch. You can have it read to you.If you are deaf than you can still get the same joy out of reading. I don't know about you, but I hate subtitles on a tv screen! My point is that you get much more out of a book than you do with tv. REading has made me one of the greatest poetry writers in my school. It can do anything for anybody at any time if you let it, give it a chance. (MORE)

There is a calm state of mind you reach by watching television. It's called the alpha brain wave state. It puts you in a place where you focus on one thing only. This is a place of relaxation, healing to your body and mind. It can be done with meditation as well. The down side could just be you are …neglecting studying for a final, or getting some yard work done. Please, find a middle ground before you indulge in too much Seinfeld! (MORE)
Some t.v. is acceptable. I recommend a v-chip to block inappropriate shows.. ANSWER: . Of course they should, how else will advertisers get their products sold. Children don't read newspapers.
i found this at http://www.post-gazette.com/headlines/19991118kidstv3.asp. The study by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that children aged 2-18 spend an average of 5 1/2 hours a day "consuming" media, including two hours and 45 minutes watching TV. Kids 8 and older spend even more time in front …of the tube -- nearly 6 3/4 hours a day. (MORE)
The advantages of watching TV could be to stay up to date on newsand weather. The disadvantages would be spending to much timewatching it.
i think that if they wish to, they should be able to. Another view: It seems the first answer was either written by a child, a person who has no children, or has no interest in the well being of their children. NO - children should NOT be allowed to watch anything they want. While it's perfect…ly fine for children to watch some TV programs, there are some which children should not be allowed to watch. And, as parents, it's their responsibility to monitor what their children do watch, and not use the TV as a 'babysitter. Children are exposed to far too much violence and sex on TV, which can result in them becoming desensitized to those things, causing them to feel the need for further violence in what they watch for stimulation or entertainment. That's only one of the ways in which violence leads to violence. If kids watch extreme violence on TV not just while they are still in their formative years, but also when they are young teens, it can result in them experimenting with things they do watch. There have been many instances where a child saw a violent act on TV, then 'acted it out', resulting in their death, or the death of another child. Parents need to be responsible in what they allow their children watch on TV, and only let them watch age appropriate programs. TV's have parental controls so parents can easily control what their children watch, even if they are not present while the child is watching TV. (MORE)

Television has lot of features and entertaining programs that make us fell good. Television can transmit new learning as well new ideas in our day to day living. In this progressive country television is part of our life, people watch television to get funds and bonding. Each of us watch television …for some reason as well the children. Children watch television just because to get fun or they do not have playmate to play with. Furthermore, watching television is good it educates children by giving new idea and words that is new to them. Children can raise questions through their parents about the movie that the children has watching or maybe share an idea of what the children understood from the movie. Family bonding may create because each family member can site a topic in the television that results to brainstorming. Example of this is when a family is having a dinner or having a picnic. In closing to that not all aspects in watching television is bad. It has a lot of advantages. (MORE)
Download and install the satellite-TV software (which one?), you can watch it and many kinds of sports online in comfort and quality. I use this site before and it works for me. Hope it's what you are looking for *** Edit by someone experienced in detecting scams: The satellite TV software is …a scam. Using it, you just use freely available streams from !@#$loads of providers (and some secret-sauce links they've found somewhere on the Internet). Just look up all the streams online using Google! or Yahoo Altavista using terms like "rtsp bbc stream" or "mms itv1" in Discussions searches. *** Just for your information. (MORE)
my brother has autism and he loves the tv. he repeats quotes from his favourite shows all the time which can be annoying but i know this is his comfort zone. i suppose it could be considered as a hobby
The major disadvantage is that it can spoil our eyes, cause obesity in us and we will become couch potatoes.
TVS, otherwise known as Television Sydney (www.tvs.tv), is an Australian free-to-air community television channel with an average monthly audience in excess of one million viewers.
it does not affect much if you follow some careful steps! . as see the TV program from a distance . don't watch for a long time (not more than 6 hours) . have a good day!
Children between the ages of 3 and 5 are at a critical stage in brain development for the development of language and other cognitive skills. The extent to which heavy television viewing can influence the development of brain neural networks, and displaces time the child would spend in other activit…ies and verbal interactions, influences early cognitive development. . The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that total television time be limited to no more than 1 to 2 hours per day. . They also recommend that programs watched should be geared to the age of the child, non-violent in nature and should reinforce language and social skills. . Parents should establish healthy television viewing habits in the pre-school years. Young children's television viewing should be limited to careful, thought-out, educationally-oriented programs. . To foster reading skills, give your young child exposure to books. Read to them often. Support your early reader with reading practice and limit television viewing. . Homework should be completed away from background television. (MORE)

The best place that I have found where you can watch tv online for a small fee is Satellite Direct, includes loads of Satellite channels and is a really good service, including : FOX , ESPN , CBS , NBC , ABC ... If you are interested then please take a look at the link below. http://satellite--tv-…-reviews.blogspot.com/ It costs only a little dollar , but then you never have to pay for tv again. There is no monthly fee, and the software is yours forever. You get over 3500 different channels from all over the world, including a lot of sports channels. Ever since I bought it, I haven't paid a cent for cable television because I get it all for free on my computer. It's also much more convenient since now I can take my TV anywhere. I will never go back to the huge monthly fees for cable. The cost of a lifetime's use of this product is less than one month's cost for digital cable. (MORE)
Not really because it has to be right for their age,for example if a 4 year old watches sex on TV that's not right for a 4 year old to watch. If the 4 year old watches educational TV that's ok because it's teaching the 4 year old things.14 Year olds are prob. allowed to watch whatever they want more …than 4 year olds but they still should be careful what they watch on tv.It's prob.best for parents to decide when children are under 18 years old because alot of TV Shows can be addicting and it's not good to be addicted to the shows when children are in school.Because if children are addicted to their favorite TV Shows while they're in school, they could fail their schoolwork or flunk their quizzes. And alot of children hate homework more then watching TV and Movies, they'd rather have fun more than do homework.Children are prob.allowed to watch the old shows but prob. either one show a day or half an hour of TV but it would be best if they watch no TV during the school year and more TV during the summer that way they won't fail school. It would also be best if Children don't get the old TV Shows on DVD because that would be selfish and they're not allowed to have them at all.Children under 18 years old are not allowed to have the old TV Shows on DVD,they can watch them on TV but they're not allowed to have the DVDs.Children 18 years old and older are allowed to have the old TV Shows on DVD,they're also allowed to watch them on TV.Only Children 18 years old and older are allowed to have the old TV Shows on DVD that means no children or teenagers are allowed to have the old shows on DVD. No, there are a lot of educational shows for children to watch on TV. However, you might want to consider limiting their time in front of the TV and encourage them to do something more active.
Every case is different: 1. They weren't raised that way 2. They think it's "garbage and a waste of time" 3. They don't want their children addicted 4. They don't want their children exposed to "filth of any kind" 5. They think it's bad for their children's health 6. They want their children to sta…y "grounded in reality" 7. They believe there are other things in life better than television. Whatever the case, I think these parents are TOO STRICT and don't believe in a healthy balance - it's either all or nothing to them! (MORE)
Eating while watching can lead to overweight followed by obesity. Our minds are occupied on what we are watching and the brain is slow to send the message of the feeling of "fullness" because it is busy focusing on the television. Children growing up watching while they have their meals tend to ke…ep this habit and have a higher chance of being overweight as an adult. DEBATING_GIRL: I am continuing from what the above person said. When kids watch TV they see many advertisements. Usually these advertisements promote an unhealthy food or drink. This makes children THINK they're hungry but they reaaly aren't. So then they go look around for junk food or they might nag their parents to buy them what they saw. (MORE)
reality tv is not good for children because reality tv is not educational they say bad words and fight and children follow that
Yes. This needs to be monitored for time allowed and content exposed to by the parent or gardian.
they set limits 4 children because when chilodren watch to much TV they get lazy and inneficient. just like my dad he watched tv hus whole life and now hes no use at all.
Children (12 and under) probably shouldn't be exposed to reality T.V. because of the language and poor examples that it shows. Children aren't old enough to realize right from wrong, and will think that what they are seeing and hearing is acceptable or O.K. They should stick to cartoons and the Disn…ey channel. However, teens and young adults (13+) should watch reality T.V. because it prepares them for real life situations and they will be able to learn from other people's mistakes as opposed to making the mistake themselves. If the violence is presented as comedy- as in the powerful but seemingly harmless elastic violence of, say Road Runner, it might be neutral- on the other hand, the Three Stooges idiotic head-drumming- well that"s not the thing to do. Kids can get all kinds of bad antisocial vibes from the Idiot box-… apart from violent action, this writer admits to having learned how to cut classes under the tutelage of Fred Flintstone ( I"ll call up Mr. Slate from the Diner, and the Boss"ll never know the difference! Probably Kids. But I could be, and most likely, wrong. I get this from my little brother who watches TV pretty much 6-8 hours a day.
Having astigmatism, and being sick at days at a time and parking my butt in front of the TV until I got better. It hurt my eyes. Not totally sure if it'll cause permanent damage to the eyes. but I highly recommend taking regular breaks if watching TV for a long time. I would get professional advice …from an Eye Specialist. Probably The David Blaze Project. It appeals to people of allgenres, so both children and adults can watch it. I watch that show- it's really really funny. I think he'sAustralian, so that's why it comes here a bit late.
Yes, you can watch TV shows through apple tv, however you currently cannot watch live shows.
It depends on the child and the household. Some families will set strict limits on computer usage, but allow more freedom with television. I'm 15, and I personally use the internet at least 6 hours a day, but haven't watched TV in months.
I believe I don't understand your question. Well, actually no one does! Lol But I understand a tiny bit so I guess I haf to say watching TV is better than TV because your watching something on TV and it doesn't cause you to be bored and another is because your watching instead of staring at th…e TV? Children may have trouble telling the difference between reality and fantasy. Unless a child has proven themselves mature enough to make a clear distinction; they may be tempted to imitate what they see. Once a child reaches a point of maturity where fantasy and reality have clear differences and …the child shows an understanding of the consequences of their own actions; than (at the discretion of parents) it may be safe enough to include some violence in their viewing. Most adults have no trouble knowing that TV is not reality and TV is not something you should go around copying. The age at which that distinction becomes clear is different for everyone. (MORE)
because they like to watch the real life show of the others and its should the real drama ,comedy and every single step it showed on the reality show show the kids the real emotions
That depends on how young they are. Children under 6 shouldn't really watch 3D and an adult should supervise children over 6 when watching 3D. You should also know that active 3D TVs like those from Samsung or Sony are more likely to cause headaches, eyestrains and dizziness. They use shutter glass …3D technology which can give a lot of stress to kids' eyes. If you're going to let your kids watch 3D, they should watch a passive 3D TV rather than an active 3D TV. Passive 3D TVs use lightweight 3D glasses that use different technology than shutter glass tech. I have a LG Cinema 3D TV and I don't worry too much about my kids watching it because it's flicker free and doesn't make the kids dizzy and not bad for the eyes because they use passive 3D glasses. Repeat studies have shown that media violence does not create violent children, but adolescents can be influenced by the things they watch. This is reflected in their speech, dress and social behaviors. I would vote no. The children in my home are restricted in regards to sexual behavior and extreme… profane language. Otherwise I have potty mouthed heathens. They are however allowed to watch blood and gore, and my four year old is zombie obsessed. (MORE)
Hillsong is my favorite show, but different people might like the shows on HGTV, Nickolodeon, or the cooking channel. Different options for different interests.
Some people believe that too much TV watching may spoil children. This is because watching TV often takes away from learning time or chore time, so they are not accustomed to help around the house.
Your child might want to stay up past his or her bedtime to watch television shows. This would happen often on school nights. If the parents are asleep, all the kid has to do is wait until they are asleep and then turn the television and watch it when they know they have to get up for school. For yo…ung children a small television and VCR without cable will work fine. Cable programming with fancy channels would be too much. (MORE)
The V-Chip is the most recommended form of control to regulate programs that children watch on television. The V-chip can block certain television channels from children's view.
