In short yes they do expire.
The timing varies depending on the manufacturer. If the pack appears yellow in color most likely it will not work to its original standards. It may not get as cold or may not stay cold for as long. The further from white the color is the less it is going to work properly.
Technically no they don't. However the chemicals can break down and the packaging can deteriorate. I would replace them every couple of years.
you can have an unused code... some people just buy them for the cool animals. Also, they codes dont expire a year after you but it, they expire a year after you log in the code into your account.

Ice packs keeps lunches cold.
Ice packs are packages that could absorb a considerable amount of heat when used to keep food from spoiling outside a refrigerator and for emergencies. Although ice packs technically do not expire, the chemicals inside would break down and the package would deteriorate, which would reduce its effectiveness in freezing. It is best to replace them every couple of years.
No, they release energy.
Instant cold packs cannot be reused once they are activated. The chemical makeup inside the package was created for one time use.
Cold packs can be purchased at most big box stores such as Walmart or Target in their first aid section. They are commonly known as ice packs where one can either break the bag to make instant cold to treat injuries or they can be shaken to create the same effect.
