Some like to be alone nearly all the time, some only part of the time, a few prefer to have people around most of the time. The problem isn't that we don't care or that we are just antisocial: The problem is that our brains aren't wired up for social communication - the eye contact, gestures, face expressions, tone of voice etc. It's all fairly meaningless to us without that bit of the brain, so we have to train our brains to use 'brain wiring' that was never designed for the incoming social information. And it sort of overheats and hurts. I love being with people, but I can't do much for it for long before needing some time out to rest and let my brain 'cool down'.

Why is it relieving to find out you have Asperger's Syndrome?

If you have Aspergers, you have probably usually been the odd one out. Many other people have thought you were strange, and as a result, you have probably been lonely. There may have been aspects of your own personality that frustrated you. You may have wondered "Why am I like this?" If you find out you have Aspergers, things suddenly make sense. You have an answer. You can be accepting of yourself. It is a relief.

Adult aspergers syndrome?

People with Aspergers tend to see large improvements as they get older. Children with Aspergers tend to be what others may say, "In their own world" as they may be obsessive with certain things and prefer to be alone. Teens with Aspergers tend to be more social and aware of themselves and this is a rather touchy area as with other teens. Adults with Aspergers may or may not be viewed as being an Aspie as many adults can "mask" the issue by acting as how others behave or doing what needs to be done. Normally adults are seen as normal yet "off" but this alone is normal as they have Aspergers.

How long does the marriage of a person with aspergers last?

Aspergers syndrome is a disorder having to do with a person's ability to interact socially. Because it is a social disorder, the general health of a person with this syndrome would not be affected. The life expectancy is the same as that of any other person. The movie "Rain Man" is about a man with Aspergers (or somewhere on the Autism Spectrum). It may give you a better idea of what it is.

Can people with Asperger's syndrome recognize their own symptoms?

Yes! I have Aspergers and always suspected that I was on the autism spectrum. Formal diagnosis has since confirmed it. V briefly I strongly dislike social situations unless with people I know well; loud noises; lack of routine & spontaneity; responsibility for others; strong emotional reactions by others; etc. I like logic and order; and get obsessed with certain topics, which I read about/research tirelessly. Aspergers has as many positives as negatives, in my experience.

Is a relationship with a person with asperger's syndrome doomed?

Not at all.People with Aspergers fall in love and care about people, just like people without Aspergers. The thing is, people with Aspergers have their own style of communication, and people without Aspergers have a different style of communication. Emotions manifest in certain ways in persons with Aspergers, and in slightly different ways with non-Aspergers. So sometimes two people both with Aspergers get along well, because they understand eachother, and can read each other's emotions better. Sometimes neurotypicals (that is, people without Aspergers) don't propperly read the emotions of someone with Aspergers, and vice versa. So there can be challenges in a neurotypical/Aspie relationship, but that relationship is not doomed. You just have to both learn to understand each other, which is perfectly possible if you both want to.The important thing to remember, is that each person with Aspergers is a unique individual with an individual personality, just like each person without Aspergers.I have Aspergers. My closest friend does also. We have a lot of affection for each other. Sadly, not everyone else understands me. But he does. Our friendship proves that we are capable of deep emotionally felt love. And it really is possible for a deep relationship to exist when one person is neurotypical (not aspergers) and the other has aspergers. But it does really help when you understand Aspergers.Aspergers: Capable of deep love, like anyone else.May have more subtle or different ways of showing emotion.Tended to be socially awkward when young. May have learned social skills in adulthood, or may still come across as a little weird. Will always have an Obsession. What this is about, depends on the individual. If he/she is in love with you, you may be their Obsession.

Is it legal for people with Asperger's syndrome to own guns?

What is a good book for a parent of a 12 year old just diagnosed with aspergers?

Aspergers is a form of Autism. A good book to read would be "Thinking in Pictures" by Temple Grandin. She, herself has a form of autism, if not aspergers specifically. She describes not only her own experience with profound insight, but she also discusses the entire spectrum of Autism.

How can you overcome asperger's syndrome on your own?

You can't. You need to see a therapist who's trained on helping people with the disorder.

Why does autistic people have shorter lifespans?

They don't, the reason you may not see servely autistic people in public is because they may live in special homes or at their parents house still. People with high functioning autism/aspergers can easily live by their own and can operate day to day like any other person. You may not even notice they have a disorder.

What is it like with Aspergers Syndrome?

This is an answer I wrote for another question on this site.First characteristic: An obsession. Every Aspie has an obsession. That means that when we care about something, it will grip and fill our whole minds. An aspie might have a life-long obsession. An aspie can also have short term obsessions. If I have to learn something, it becomes my obsession until I know it thoroughly. I also have two ongoing permanent obsessions. This obsession can be with anything, it depends on the individual. We might talk about it for hours and bore you terribly. We often learn social cues in adulthood, while other people knew them in their teenage years.Sometimes we appear weird. Others of us study social skills and learn to blend in very effectively. However, most of us still feel like we never really fit in.We are extremely sensitive. We may care deeply about our loved ones. Yet we may have difficulty expressing our emotions in ways that people without Aspergers understand. We also tend to hate loud noises and sometimes bright lights. They hurt. We may have other sensory issues and sensitivities, such as to taste or touch. Some fictional characters with aspergers are Mr Monk, from Monk, Lars, from Lars and the Real Girl (who is also emotionally damaged), Abed in Community, Lucius in the Village and possibly Fluttershy in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.Women with Aspergers are more likely to be undiagnosed and are not often portrayed in movies or TV.We each have our own personality and Aspergers manifests itself in different ways in different people. Different people may have different combinations of symptoms. It was hard for me, until I developed a close friendship with one person who accepts me and understands me. I used to be isolated and sad. With my friendship to him to keep me going, I am very happy. Turns out, he probably has Aspergers too.
