Nothing happens. Actually green was not the original color for St. Patrick's day. It was blue and if you are in Ireland if you are Catholic you wear green, but if you are Protestant you wear orange ( this dates back to William of Orange).
It's thought that the pinching started in the early 1700s, about the time that awareness of St. Patrick's as a holiday came to the fore, too, in Boston, in the Massachusetts colony. They thought if you wore green, it made you invisible to the Leprechauns, which was good because they would pinch anyone they could see. legend says wearing green makes one "invisible" to leprechauns, and apparently, these magical tricksters will pinch anyone who isn't wearing green in honor of the holiday. If you are wearing a very minimal amount of green, such as part of a sock, necklace, earring, bracelet, etc, it does not count, and you will rightfully get pinched. However, if you wear a completely green shirt, necklace, bracelet, earring, etc, and it's just hidden (not on purpose, mind you), then if someone pinches you, you are permitted to pinch them back.
