No Direct TV is owned by Direct TV Group and is a publicly traded company. There stock symbol is DTV and they are traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Here is were it gets a little tricky..... News Corporation had owned a 39% stake in Direct TV Group and in 2006 agreed to sell its shares of Direct TV Group to Liberty Media. In return Liberty Media agreed to sell its shares of News Corp back to News Corporation allowing Rupert Murdoch and family increased control of New Corporation. AT&T does have a strategic partnership with a sattelite company but that company is Dish Network. There have been rumors that AT&T may want to buyout Dish Network but nothing has happened to this point. AT&T is working hard to roll out there own Television service but the infrastructure takes time to develop and even then there will be large portions of the country (rural) that will not have the fiber optics nessesary for television. This has been the reasoning behind any suspected buyout of a sattelite company. It would allow AT&T to offer the "triple play" package of telephone, internet, and TV services.
