No. Firefox has a number of methods to protect it from people trying to get access to your computer and information but it itself does not have a firewall.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

It is actually part of the virus protection/firewall that you have on your computer. Try turning off your firewall, or pause it, before you download. That should work fine.. Make sure you turn it back on after though .
Some trojans may mess with Firefox and IE proxy settings. Alos, make sure your firewall is configured to allow then access.
i am not sure why this happens, but it does not really do much as i have the same thing on my computer, i think it has to do with a downloaded file from the internet like Mozzila firefox which is an internet firewall
