It all depends on several factors. If you have HDMI or component cables hooked up and are watching a non-HD sports channel but is being broadcast in a digital format or HD, HDTV will make a difference. Some stations that still only do analog broadcasting won't look that good, they will in fact look worse in HDTV. This is why DirecTV is the leading entertainment as they have 3x the HD content of regular cable. This is also why the US is moving to an all-digial format on February 17. 2009.
