Usually, but there's not as much as you might think, given its importance to the carbon-oxygen cycle of life on Earth. It averages about 400 ppm, or about 2/5 of 1% of the atmosphere (but this varies greatly in some areas, including dense human civilization). As a byproduct of fossil fuel combustion (greenhouse gas), it is under scrutiny as a major moderator of Earth's climate. Since it is soluble, the oceans may contain up to 50 times more carbon dioxide than the air.

I'm sorry this might not answer you question, but with what little research I have done on a question similar to this one I believe it doesn't float on it, it seems to be like a tiny bubble, mixing with it, making the water rise. Then it pops and the water falls.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is heavier than air, but it also mixes well. Winds are thus able to carry it all over the globe, where it causes global warming, even in places with no emissions, like Antarctica.

Carbon Dioxide is heavier than air. It does mix with air though.
