If your dog has been sneezing a lot and lately started coughing in the mornings could he have a cold?

Take him to the vet. He could either have an upper respiratory infection or Allergies. Either must be treated. Wash his bedding and make sure he doesn't have fleas, as they can cause bad allergies, as can grass, and many other things.

Sneezing in dogs can be sneezing due to an illness or allergy, as in humans, or if the dog has something in his nose, like dust. Sneezing in dogs is also a kind of a "laugh": where humans might laugh, a dog might sneeze. Sneezing is thus common after petting, when seeing the dog's owner in the morning or on return from work, etc.

A dog's nose is not the best indicator for determining whether it is unwell; instead, go by your dog's behavior or, if you know how to check it, the dog's anal temperature. If a dog is acting lethargic, not eating or drinking normally, or giving any other symptom that it doesn't feel well, it should be taken to a veterinarian for an evaluation. The same applies if you believe that your dog may have a temperature. The vet will be able to determine what is wrong with your dog.
