They are considered to be physically addictive (as opposed to chemically addictive or psychologically addictive).

Note that drugs that are physically addictive (alcohol and opiates) are also extremely chemically and psychologically addictive as well. But physical addiction trumps those two. Physical addiction means you get violently ill, and can even die, if you suddenly stop taking the drug. That is not true of chemical and psychological addiction.
