Geography is important to history because it affects the history a lot. For example, the Revolutionary war teetered on the terrain and location of several battles. The British traditionally marched to war in formations, but the Americans used guerrilla warfare, hiding themselves in trees and other land formations in order to make up for their smaller numbers. If the Revolutionary War had come later and been fought in a plains area (say, Kansas), there's a good chance the Americans would have lost.
Geography affects availability of food and leads pastoralist or agricultural societies to develop. Geography allows for land and sea trade, which influence events through cross-cultural contact.
There's many ways geography can explain the past, however I think the most famous on would be Pangaea. Pangaea was the continents when they were all together, as one huge continent. However, over millions and millions of years, the continents shifted at about 12 centimeters per year. Due to this, we have all over our continents, all separated. But, the main part of this was when dinosaurs were roaming the lands, during the separation. Some of them could survive this change of temperatures from the continents moving, and most could not. Therefore they died off. Scientists have found frozen fossils, from dinosaurs and other species that were frozen now, but when the fossil was dropped there, that area was not frozen. This was due to the separation of Pangaea.

The purpose of Human Geography is to study and understand the spatial relationships between people and their environments. It focuses on how human activities and behaviors shape and are shaped by the physical and cultural landscapes. Ultimately, it seeks to provide insights into the complexities of human societies and the way they interact with the world around them.
