Impressionism is an art movement that began in 19th century Paris. Its main characteristics include an emphasis on light, small yet visible brush strokes, and ordinary subject matter. Some of the best-known Impressionist painters include Monet, Renoir, and Cezanne.
The impressionist style of painting is characterized chiefly by concentration on the general impression produced by a scene or object and the use of unmixed primary colors and small brush strokes to simulate actual reflected light.
Impressionism was generally from 1860-1900 in France. Leonardo da Vinci painted the "Mona Lisa" from 1503 to 1506 in Italy.
