Science

The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena is all part of science. Nothing is immune to the scientific process: from charm quarks that haven't existed naturally since the beginning of time to Pluto, recently demoted from planet to dwarf planet. Questions on knowledge about the material and physical aspects of our world are asked and answered here.

Why switching off the torch would cause the worms to die faster than when the torch was switch on?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Some bacteria and worms grow faster and lives more due to the sufficient temperature available for their survival. When a torch is lit up, it generates light energy on conversion of electrical energy and it's a fact that heat energy is also produced by a body if it produces light energy. The Heat which is released increases the temperature of the area which led the bacteria to survive more.

On switching it off, the chances are reduced as the source of heat has been switched off and slowly the temperature will return to normal. Hence on switching off the torch the survival chances of worms and bacteria is get reduced.

How the capacitor set lower cutoff frequency limit?

User Avatar

A capacitor totally blocks DC current (it's an open circuit to it).

The higher the frequency, the less resistance (impedance) the capacitor has.

What is the role of dibenzalacetone in sunscreens?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Due to the conjugation of dibenzalacetone, the molecule is able to absorb UV rays. It is commonly found in sunscreen because, when applied, the dibenzalacetone is able to absorb the harmful UV rays from the sun before they can reach/harm the skin.

Does sugar expand or contract when heated?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

no it don't unless u put more sugar in it

Correct answer: Most things expand when heated and contract when cooled. Exceptions are things like ice. Ice actually expands and is less dense than water, because of the way the ice crystals form. However, when you get below -4 degrees Celsius, it also will increase density the colder it gets.

The key to this is that cold is only a concept used to describe a relative loss of heat. Cold is a concept and cannot be measured. Only heat can be measured, because only heat is energy. EVERYTHING has a certain amount of heat energy, even ice. The more heat energy that a material has, the more excited the atoms get. They start to vibrate and push the surrounding atoms away from themselves. As the vibrations get more and more intense, the material expands. When the expansion gets intense enough, the solid state matter will become a liquid state matter. Increase it even more, it will turn to a gas state.

So short version - it expands. In fact, if you heat it up enough, it will turn into a liquid. Cooks use this to "carmelize" food. Sprinkle sugar on a food (like a dessert or a ham), heat gently, sugar melts and when it cools, it becomes a nice sweet glaze on the food.

How can a patient achieve relief with sub-lingual nitroglycerin when the oral route typically has an absorption phase of 15 to 30 minutes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Nitroglycerin is rapidly absorbed through the oral mucosa. Doses intended to be swallowed are also enclosed in a gelatin capsule and usu. micro-pelleted, both of which slow the rate of availability.

Why cant you throw a rubber ball far like a hard ball?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the ball is lighter than the hard ball, then it is because a heavier ball has more force when moving at the same speed as a lighter ball.

If they weigh the same, then it is because in some instances, with certain materials, a hard ball with a lot of "ping" to it will bounce further than a rubber ball, due to motive energy being converted to heat in the polymers of the rubber ball, thus decreasing the total motive energy.

What advantages and disadvantages if we low transmission bit rate?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The advantage perhaps is that the signal data could be passed over older and cruder wiring infrastructure, that slower error correction hardware could keep up. Speech using Voice over IP would be awful. In certain very special applications a relatively low bit rate may be needed - say for transmissions from planetary probes - where low power or signal robustness are special requirements but someone else will have to answer that one.

The disadvantages are huge - first you'll wait ages for data to come through except where the data is very small - a song or picture would take a long time at very low rates

As a rough rule divide the bit rate by 10 to get the bytes per second so 56 Kbits/sec (slow by modern standards) - that's roughly 5600 bytes/second so a 5 Mbyte song would take approximately 5,000,000 divided by 5600 which gives 1000 seconds roughly which is approx 16 minutes if it maintained the full 56Kbits/sec

What did Newton say to the dog who burned his manuscript?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Although it might appear that this is the first line of a joke, - to which the answer would be "Dog-gone!" - it really happened.

Newton's dog, named "Diamond" accidentally caused a candle to fall onto a pile of papers, destroying the only records of 2 years of research.

Knowing that there was nothing he could do about it, apparently Newton simply stroked the dog and said:

"Oh Diamond, you do not know what mischief you have done me!"

This is a warning to everyone to be sure you have a backup of important files on your computer - and other places.

What are the tips in science quiz bee?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Here are some tips that may help you when you sit your science quiz:

  • Always think positive (If you think negative your brain will react towards the negativity therefore making your performance in the test much worse and you will worry more so think positive).
  • Decent Revision (Before you sit the exam/quiz, have a decent hour or two of revision everyday to reassure yourself that you would be confident during the quiz itself).
  • Do Not: Cheat, why? Your just cheating yourself if you cheat, especially in a quiz.. You will not know your true abilities. I know this is just a quiz but do not cheat otherwise your predicted grade would be higher than expected and you wouldn't benefit yourself in anyway. You've got to learn and overcome this quiz confidently otherwise you can't overcome anything else in future if you just rely on the system of cheating.
  • Do your best, and may you have the best of luck!
