Hawaii was known as the Kingdom of Hawaii when it was a monarchy between 1810-1893. After the monarchy was overthrown, Hawaii became The Republic of Hawaii and lasted until 1898. Hawaii was annexed as a United States territory in 1898 and was known as the Territory of Hawaii until statehood in 1959.
