Marquette and Joliet explored the Mississippi River so that they could find the northwest passage to China. Marquette actually named the state today that we call Florida. There are a lot of tall tales saying that Joliet actually died why trying to save Marquette. Along time ago on February 11, 1692 Marquette and the people left from his crew came sailing back to announce that they had found the Northwest Passage.
Marquette and Joliet followed the Mississippi river south to the Arkansas river. Marquette and Joliet made their exploration trip in 1673.
