A:You can be sure that it has rained on earth for billions of years. The rain and the resulting run-off water gradually gouged our river valleys and built up vast layers of sedimentary ('formed from sediments') rock right across the world, even trapping ancient fossils as they formed.

No, there was not. The Bible states that it had never even rained before the Flood. Noah's friends and peers thought he was crazy when he told them that water was going to fall from the sky and fill the earth, destroying everything, and they all needed to help him build a boat and pray so that they wouldn't die. And you have to admit, you'd have a hard time believing something like that, too if you were in there shoes! But no, there was never a single drop of rain before the big Flood.

As the Bible does not clearly say, some interpret Hebrews 11:7 saying of 'things not yet seen' as indicating it hadn't rained yet along with Genesis 2:4-6 which states the 'dew' from the ground was watering the plant life.

However, on the flip side, Noah seems to fully understand what rain is in Genesis 7:4-5 when God tells him what He intends to do. Yet it is not clear.

No. That is why no one believed noah when he said the flood was coming.
