Medical bills can build up fast, especially for someone who is uninsured. If you have medical insurance, you may wish to contact the provider to make sure that they cover the procedure or care that was given to you. Have the hospital or doctor bill your insurance. If you don't have insurance or have a large amount of money that the insurance couldn't cover, I would recommend calling the company billing you to set up a payment plan in which you can pay off the debt in low monthly installments.

If you have a considerable amount of debt and no way to pay, another way to receive help is to write a Letter of Hardship. Trying to explain the situation shows your good faith and desire to satisfy your bills. Hospitals and medical professionals are very likely to meet you half way, instead of trying to collect through the third party. So writing a short and right to the point hardship letter is worth while, as long as you intend to pay. You may wish to call the company who sends the bills and ask who to address the letter to, as often times the company billing you is not the hospital itself.
