All 13 pilots to fly it are officially recognized as astronauts because they flew at an altitude superior to 100 km. -10 July 1968: The Soviet Mil Mi V12 is the largest helicopter ever built. Only prototypes are made. -December 31 1968: The Soviet Tupolev 144 "charger" is the first supersonic passenger aircraft. It is followed by the more successful BAE/Aerospatiale Concorede. -February 9 1969: The Boeing 747 "jumbo jet is the largest passenger aircraft. It maintains this record for over 35 years.
