i would suggest you take it to someone who knows what to do as it ain't a novice job unless you got all the tools like torque wrench and a good socket set,if its an 8v then it should'NT cost the earth as these are pretty easy to do.
Refer to a service manual such as Haynes, Bentley etc. or have the work done at a trusted garage.
Between the engine block and the cylinder head best wishes
If you want to do this yourself purchase the Haynes manual for your car. Haynes and Bentley produce excellent manuals that others cannot compare to.
Oil in the expansion tank indicates a leak between the internal oil channels and water channels within the cylinder head. This is usually attributed to a failed cylinder head gasket, cracked cylinder head or cracked oil cooler (where fitted).

You should typically pay around £250 including parts and labour for a basic head gasket repair. This should include head skimming, a new timing belt and tensioner. It is worth having the cylinder head pressure/crack tested, and replace worn valves and valve-guides as necessary if you intend to keep the car. This will add around £200 to the final bill.
It sounds like there maybe a crack in the block allowing some coolant into one or more of the cylinders. When you removed the head to change the gasket, did you have the block checked to make sure there were no cracks in the place that the gasket blew? That is sometimes one of the reasons that head gaskets "blow". The cylinder wall develops a small crak at the top of the cylinder near the head gasket and as the crack grows it allows coolant to leak and eventually the coolant begins to boil from the heat. Once it gets hot enough and starts expanding, "POP" the head gasket "blows". The engine may show a compression difference in once or two of the cylinders> Use a compression gauge to check. The exhaust sysytem (especially the muffler) may have collected quite a lot of coolant from the bad gasket and it may take several hours of hot running time to clear that out, just saying.
It could be your oil cooler that is coroded. Try changing that and then see if there is still oil leaking into the water. The oil pressure is higher than the water pressure hence the one way leak. If the water is in the oil it is probably the head gasket.
No. the 1300 piston diameter is 77 mm. You would have to flycut the head to accept the larger piston piston in the 1500.. Oh..did you really mean "golf"
it could simply be worn out valve seals or a blown head gasket. check the seals first before wasting money changing the head gasket.
Can't think of much else than overheating or a blown head gasket.
any gunk normally creamy under the oil cap normally is head gasket unless the vehicle hasn't been used for sometime then it could be condensation but that will go after a little while buy a bottle of k seal from the motor factors first before changing head gasket as this is really good stuff and is alot cheaper than a head gasket.
