It was named Kitty Murray by Reeve Wilfred Wade of Ancaster, after an eccentric widow whose husband died shortly after their marriage in 1863. She lived alone in the only house on that road until she died in 1909. the house was torn down in 2001. the house was of little use on the road as a sawmill was at one end of the road and the road now called Southcote Road was the main thoroughfare.
