Most houses in the 1960s were much smaller than 6 bedroom, 3 bath! To give some historical context here, during the late 1800s (1880s) to around the 1930s families built very large houses where several generations of the family lived. For example, elderly parents may have had a room or an entire floor; their adult child and spouse (at least one child with spouse) and their children lived on another floor. They "shared" the kitchen as one big family. In many rural towns, the bathroom was still a 2- or 4-seater outhouse; and if they had an indoor bathroom (one bathroom), everyone shared it.
By the 1920s-1930s, these old homes became more expensive to maintain and to heat. Coal was still the primary heat source, or fireplaces and coal furnace. As families moved away or the elderly died, these old large mansions were parceled into sleeping rooms or "apartments". As indoor Plumbing and bathrooms became more common, conversion to apartments became a valuable source of income. There are many towns across the USA that still have these very old houses now split into many apartments.
Several bedrooms and 1 bathroom houses sold for around $25,000 to 35,000 between the 1930s to 1940s. In some towns, even $15,000 to 20,000 was far beyond most people's means.
NOTE: A house with 6 bedroom and 3 indoor bathrooms would have been newly built and more likely would have been constructed after the 1970s or even after the 1980s.

While most renovations are a diminishing return in terms of selling, the master bathroom is usually a good place to focus on for a good return of investment. We renovated our master bathroom in our bedroom and it raised our appraised value by $13,000. Feel free to check out our story at the link below.
