Tomatoes grow on vines. The vines are propped up to keep the tomatoes off the ground. Then a person or a machine goes through the field and picks the tomatoes from the vine. They are loaded onto a belt and placed in a truck bed.
They go from there to the packing house. They are washed and then sorted. Those that are acceptable for the table are put in boxes for shipping to stores. The other ones will be used for ketchup, tomato puree, other tomato products, animal feed, or some other purpose.
A truck takes the boxes for the stores from the packing house to a warehouse. The warehouse is refrigerated. From that point on the tomatoes will be cooled. From the warehouse they will either go directly to stores or to another warehouse. Finally a truck will take the boxes of tomatoes from a warehouse to the store.
