How can a Canon pix ma MP 460 all in one printer be connected to windows vista?

I have a Canon PIXMA MP 460 all in one printer but cannot scan documents. I have downloaded the installation software for the printer and MP Navigator but continually have the message... scanner drivers which support this software are not installed.I feel like throwing my laptop through the window!
