AnswerThe main problem with the bible is that it was written originally in languages that few of us these days understand. Therefore we have to rely on translations from the original Hebrew and Greek in order to understand what the bible is saying.Sometimes the actual translation is biased and prejudiced to promote a particular school of theology or doctrine. However, the majority of translations are reliable and accurate. Despite this, many people 'cherry-pick' scripture taking verses out of context to 'prove' a particular viewpoint whilst ignoring other verses that give the opposite viewpoint.
In this way, rather than take the whole of scripture to answer a particular issue, scripture taken out of context can be used to support one's own prejudices and bigotries. In the past, annd even today, scripture has been used to legitimise xenophobia, racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia and a host of other prejudices, simply because there are some humans who are bigots and use scripture (or their version of it) to 'back up' their objectionable beliefs.
