Labeled as feeble-minded by the state, hundreds of simply poor, uneducated kids with no place to go, ended up in institutions like the Fernald School in Waltham, Massachusetts. Part of a popular American movement in the early 20th century called the Eugenics Movement, the idea was to separate people considered to be genetically inferior from the rest of society and prevent them from reproducing.
Most of the school is torn down now as the state secret has been made public, only the most severely mentally handicapped remain and as they age out and die, no new patents are transferred in as the ultimate goal is to erase the evidence of Eugenics from the memories of all but those who suffered this hell.
