That is a very confusing question and I completely understand why. I interpret this question like this:
I have many material things but they are worth nothing. Oh, sure I paid money for them and yes, if i were to try to sell them on eBay i'd probably get some money for them. But when i die, where do they go? Do they come with me? no. Will I even own most of the things i have now in 10 years? probably not. What i am trying to say is that the things i own are "something" but at the same time, nothing.
A lot of people buy things to make themselves happy. Not to get preachy here, but although they experience temporary happiness, the object can never make them truly happy. There was a story i heard a couple days ago about a very, very, very rich man that lived not too long ago. unfortuneately i can't remember his name. anyway, he was a multi-millionair. Someone asked him one time, "how much money do you need to be happy?" The man smiled and replied, "Just a little more." His life was centered around earning money but when he died, did it go with him? umm, no.
Here's something i learned a long time ago. It is a question you can ask yourself to figure out if what you own is "something" or "nothing":
If the police came to your house and told you that an army was coming to take over the country and that you had 5 MINUTES to gather (into ONE average backpack) anything that you wanted (besides the bare necessaties) what would you choose?
