A broken PVC pipe that is glued to a metal fitting might be removed by applying heat to the PVC pipe. Heat should not be from an open flame, but a heat gun to prevent fire from the glue burning.

First cut off pipe even with female fitting. Using a hacksaw blade, cut grooves into remainder of pipe inside fitting. Be careful not to exceed the thickness of the pipe you want removed or you will cut grooves into the hub. Cut the grooves every 1/2" or closer if pipe is less than 3" diameter. Then remove carefully with your sharp chisel being careful not to damage the hub too much. A little "scarring" is okay and will inevitably occur, but be sure not to damage the hub or crack it by hammering too hard. Use 80 or 100 grit sandpaper to smooth the inside of the hub and you are now ready to install a new pipe or fitting.

Great solution, but somewhat labor-intensive when dealing with relatively inexpensive material. A quicker fix would be--space permitting--cut pipe off leaving approx. 1" inch exposed old pipe. Put a coupling on the stub and reinstall the original remnant of pipe. If changing to a different setup (i.e., different fittings) proceed the same way, but shorten new installation slightly. On 3" or larger pipe/fittings, flexible clamp-on "couplings" are available--use of one, two, or more in different places will more than pay their way in terms of labor, sweat, and profanity. They also save hours of realignment time due to their flexible nature. BTW, these flexible wonders are also available as reducers!

They provide a secure and leak-proof connection, allowing for the smooth flow of liquids or gases through the pipes. These fittings come in various shapes and sizes, such as elbows, tees, couplings, and adapters, and they can be used for a wide range of applications, including plumbing, irrigation, and construction.
