Bad sensor on tire (replace battery??)
this is for safety so engine does not get ruined, check oil level!!
It could possibly
Oil level or pressure will not trip a check engine light.
No it will not.
check to see if there is a left headlight fuse in fuse box.
Yes.
Check your gas cap. If the tank does not build pressure, it trips a sensor and the check engine light will come on. The gas smell is the fumes that should have created the pressure.
The light could come on for a number of reasons. The vehivle would have to be hooked up to a scanner to determine the engine code or codes. After you determine the codes you can isolate and fix the probelem. If the check engine light is on there will be a computer code that will appear on the scanner.
You may need to add water to the radiator or windshield washer tank
When this happened on our 2001 Malibu it was the sensors at the wheels that were faulty and not the brakes. Somehow they had been incorrectly installed after a previous brake check.
I am not sure of the other 4 reasons But in my experience the top reason your check engine light comes on is because your gas cap isn't tightened all the way.
Because when the air in a tire gets colder, it contracts and that reduces the pressure in the tire.
