They couldn't vote(Athens was the birthplace of democracy) I think in special situations they could own land. Spartan woman lovin their worked and excersised more. Other than that they were house wives
Athenian women did not receive a formal education, nor did they participate in athletic competitions. They were taught how to run a household by their mother, they were educated by them in reading, writing, math, music, literature, and dance. Girls were adults a 12 or 13. They married and began running their own households. Women were not given full citizenship, they could not vote, hold office, or own property. Women were very restricted, they were barely ever out in the public.
Most people confuse ancient athenian slaves with servants of that time. They are very different. Slaves: They were fed and given a place to sleep. They ha to cook, clean, wash and dress the children and were payed hardly anything at all. They were not allowed to sleep in the house
Servants: Slept in a nice room in a warm part of their master/mistress' house. They had to cook and take care of the children but enjoyed this, as they were being payed a large sum of money. They were often treated like members of the family and as their owners - who were rich - didn't want them to look shabby, they wore elegant clothing and where ever their owner'd went, they went too. It was a nice life for a servant in Ancient Athens.
Most girls did not learn to read or write. Girls grew up helping their mothers around the house. They were taught to cook, clean, spin thread, and weave cloth. Some also learned ancient secret songs and dances for religious festivals. Girls usually married around the age of 15. Those from wealthy families married men chosen by their fathers. Girls from poor families often had more choice.
Womens and slaves in Ancient Athens were not citizens so they could not take part interest city's government or vote.
To run the household and vegetable garden, supervise the household slaves, bear and raise children, occasional women's' religious ceremonies.

Spartan women had a degree of equality. In Athens women were kept in the home in near purdah, getting out for an occasional women's festival.
They stayed at home in virtual purdah, raising families, working in the house and garden, directing slaves, and getting out very occasionally for a women's religious festival.

Women in Athens had no political role. They stayed at home running it in virtual purdah. Aristotle considered men to be stronger than women - he was talking about in rational reasoning.
