A Quaker named William Penn came to America to have his own religion. he got the land because the king had owed Williams dead father money, so instead he gave him land in America. William thought that Pennsylvania was so filled with woods, that it should be called woods (sylvania in Latin) but the king added Penn at the beginning, because it was penns land (it now meant Penn's woods) William would have rather it just been sylvania, but the king insisted!!!!
