How did Rome get its name?

Rome was said to have been named after Romulus, who, with his twin brother Remus, founded the original city of Rome. One version of the legend has Romulus slaying Remus when he disparaged his attempts to build a wall around the city. Another version had them argue over who had the support of the gods; Romulus won and killed his brother.
The legend says that it was named after the founder of Rome: Romulus. He and his brother Remus were supposedly raised by wolves.

The Romans believed that Rome had been founded and named by "Romulus," one of two mythological twins raised by a wolf. Trying to establish credentials as a world-class town, the Romans maintained other fanciful notions about their city's origin, even including an absurd connection to Ilion of the Trojan War. Although its earliest history is lost, we do know that Rome began as a shepherds' outpost, part of the older city of Alba Longa. according to legend Rome was founded in 753 B.C. by the brothers Romulus and Remus sons of the war god mars. Romulus killed Remus and named it after himself.
