The tactics used by William in The Battle of Hastings was to charge at Harolds army, (up hill) and then turn and run down hill. Harolds army would then chase the running Normans. The Normans would stop running and circle Harolds army. They killed off many this way.
they then fired arrows into the saxson ranks
The Battle of Hastings was one of the earliest recorded battles at which heavy cavalry used couched lances, which was made possible by the recent invention of the arched saddle and stirrups.
William also used a combination of archers, infantry, and cavalry, where Harold used only infantry.
William's troops feigned retreat, making the English break their own shield wall, making them vulnerable. Then, the Normans suddenly turned around and surrounded the English, hacking them down, one by one.............
Well, William had many options against his tough opponent Harold, who had experience in many tactical battles. William finally went for the archer technique, in other words, he set his archer first against Harold's shield wall, this did soften the opposition a little though did not break the wall, so then Harold decided to charge with his soldiers, this was a bad and a good idea, bad as they were literally going to get trampled on though good because when they retreated the Saxons chased them, therefore breaking the wall. Then William used his cavilers to go in side the wall and then absolutely smash the saxons. In my opinion at the end of the day HArold should have won, as he had the better tasctics and was winning until his soldiers broke the wall of defence.
