At Waterloo in Belgium in 1815 an allied army of British, Dutch and Prussian troops defeated the French army of Napoleon. Major forces were led by Great Britain's Lord Wellington.
The British defeat to the Continental Army prompted France to seek an alliance. The Continentals had been receiving military aid and weapons from France all along but now they had the French Navy and 10,000 French troops supporting them.
