It shortend the war by forcing the Japanese to surrender under U.S. terms. The Japanese people were not going to give up, they fought to the very end, but had it not been for the devastation of the atomic attacks we might still be fighting.Also if president Truman allowed the war to go on as it was, the allies would invade Japan and more soldiers would be killed.

Well i would have to say that yes the Atomic bomb saved peoples lives. because without the dropping of the atomic there would have been lots more people that had been killed in the war. So yes it was necessary to drop the bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. (edit) Some errors and to add more information (edit) Because of the Japanese culture, we would of had to fight off every man woman and child to have won the war. I believe that we saved 2-5 million lives (500,000 American lives were estimated to end)
