Holes on the flute are covered and uncovered to change the way air passes through the instrument.
It's the German name for recorder - Blockflote with an umlaut on the letter o. The standard cocert flute is called in German Querflote, or just flote
the hollow block is a chemical change
You can wash any flute if you were expecting to change all the pads on the flute. Otherwise the water could change how the pads cover the holes on the flute. In other words the pads should cover the holes completely in order for the flute to blow properly. If your concern is for the flute to be clean enough for another person to use it, usually you would be concerned with cleaning the headjoint, particularly the lip plate that touches the lower lip when you play the flute. Hope this helps. alvidovich@yahoo.com

Yes definitely! The flute has modernised since then and there are new mechanisms which are now available which involve NO screws or wires. New metals have been used in creating the flute. And the invention of new flutes also has bought a change to the flute collection. So to answer your question yes.
If the flute is made of sections slotted together. I would think that slightly pulling apart one or more joints would lengthen the flute thus reducing it's pitch
