They have to go throgh a couple of stages before the actuall ceremony. Firstly they shave their heads and dress in white. That represents the transition from a householder to a monk.They also have to make a sacrifice - limited amounts of sleeping in comfortable beds, food and entertainment.

Buddhism is not about rituals and celebration, it is about liberation. Any rituals around "coming of age" would be attached to the cultures in which practitioners of Buddhism live.
